第1弾（ 福井県 河川マップ）と同様に、今回も福井県のオープンデータを活用して、Googleマップで「福井ふるさと百景」の英語翻訳版を紹介しています。

Users can view various information based on translated open-source data (about disaster safety, sightseeing spots, historic places, Michi no Eki roadside stations, etc.) on Google Maps. Much like our first installment (Map of River Cameras in Fukui), this new project takes the same approach, using open-source data provided by Fukui Prefecture to display the 100 Hometown Views of Fukui on Google Maps with English translations.
Click the circled numbers on the Google Maps view to see pictures and information on each place. For now, we have added 40 locations in northern Fukui Prefecture, out of the hundred places featured in the 100 Hometown Views of Fukui. 　　　Produced by:Expressions Co., Ltd.

切通し道（あわら市細呂木）

Along Awara City’s Old Hokuriku Road, checkpoints, milestones, and other relics of the past remain. Along with Fukui domain’s Hosorogi checkpoint built at the dawn of the Edo Period, mile markers following standard measurements and rest areas were established for travelers.

あわら市の旧北陸道沿いには、関所や一里塚など、各所に当時の街道の風景が残されています。江戸時代初期には福井藩が細呂木に関所を設けるとともに、街道沿いに一里塚を設け、旅人の里程の目安と休憩の場としてきました。

TOJINBO CLIFFS (NATIONALLY DESIGNATED PLACE OF SCENIC BEAUTY)
東尋坊（国天然記念物名勝）

The Tōjinbō Cliffs are composed of rare, pillared pyroxene andesite joints as a result of magma cooling and hardening along the Echizen coastline, further shaped by being buffeted by ocean waves over the course of millions of years. These bare cliffs towering over the Sea of Japan at 20m in height have been designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument by the country.

東尋坊は、マグマが冷え固まってできた輝石安山岩の柱状節理が、海の荒波を受けてできた岸壁です。高さ20ｍ以上の岩肌が日本海にそそり立ち、国の天然記念物および名勝の指定を受けています。

A plentiful harvest on the Sakai Plains
豊かな実りをむかえた坂井平野

The Sakai Plains are home to koshihikari rice, whose name comes from its wide regards as the “shining light of Echizen,” symbolizes Fukui’s rice culture. Planting is carried out in May, and as fall grows closer the fields become awash in a soft golden color that glows in the evening sun. Gentle breezes blowing across the plain whisper as they pass through the ride fields.

坂井平野は、福井を代表する米どころであり、５月に植えられた稲は、秋が近づくと一斉に色づき、一面黄金色に染まった光景は壮大で、夕日に照らされて、どこまでも広がる稲穂の海がさやさやと風に鳴ります。

Maruoka-jo Castle, Oldest keep in Japan
日本最古の天守閣　丸岡城

Maruoka Castle, located in present-day Sakai City, was built in 1576 by Shibata Katsutoyo as a branch castle for Fukui’s Kitanoshō Castle. The remaining watchtower is the oldest of its kind in Japan.

坂井市丸岡町にある丸岡城は、柴田勝豊（勝家の甥）が天正４年（1576年）に北庄城の支城として築城したお城で、２重３層の天守閣は望楼式天守で、現存する日本最古の天守閣です。

Heisenji Temple Approach
白山平泉寺参道

At approximately 200 hectares in area, Hakusan Heisen-ji Temple is one of the largest historic sites in Japan. Built by the grand monk Daichō in 717, it served as the headquarters of the Hakusan religion in the Echizen region, and at its peak housed 48 shrines, 36 temple halls, 6,000 monks, and 8,000 sōhei warrior monks.

白山平泉寺は、かつての境内が約200haに及ぶ全国屈指の広さをもつ国の史跡です。平泉寺は養老元年(717年)泰澄大師によって開かれたと伝えられ、白山信仰の越前側の拠点として、最盛期には48社36堂６千坊、僧兵８千人の巨大な宗教都市を形成していました。

Mana Gorge
真名峡

The Mana Gorge, situated approximately 1km upriver from the Gojōhō Dam, stands out among the many picturesque spots throughout the prefecture. The depth of its waters contrast with the sloping green forests at its banks, creating a remarkable color and brilliant natural landscape.

真名峡は、大野市の真名川上流域、五条方(ごじょうほう)発電所の約1ｋｍ上流から真名川ダム付近にかけて発達する深い峡谷で、県内屈指の景勝地です。谷の両壁は急斜面をなし、谷底が著しく深いため、水面の深青色が斜面の森林の緑とあいまって、美しい自然景観を形成しています。

Rokuroshi Plateau
六呂師高原

The Rokuroshi Plateau (elev. 520-850m) is a formation of volcanic rock situated between northeastern Ono and Southwester Katsuyama City, at the foot of Kyō-ga-dake (elev. 1,625m), and was selected as the most beautiful spot for stargazing in a national competition. Following this a nature conservation center with planetarium and observation tower were constructed, and the area has become a center for observation in the natural sciences.

六呂師高原は、大野市北東部、勝山市との境にある経ヶ岳（標高1,625m）のふもとに広がる標高 520～850m の高原状の溶岩台地で、全国の星空の街コンテストで星の美しい街に選ばれました。「星のふる里」をテーマにプラネタリウムを備えた自然保護センター、観察棟などの施設を整え、自然科学に親しむ場としても注目を集めています。

鮮やかな四季の移ろい　九頭竜湖

Be it the brilliant spring blossoms, canvas of colors from fall foliage, or wintry white slopes, Lake Kuzuryū’s bountiful natural surroundings create a beautiful panorama regardless of the season. Hakogase Bridge, known as the Bridge of Dreams, provides a stunning view of this man-made lake.

豊かな自然に恵まれた九頭竜湖は、春の桜、秋の紅葉、冬の雪景色など、四季折々の美しさがあり、その雄大な姿はいつ見ても絶景です。九頭竜湖に架かる箱ヶ瀬橋は夢のかけ橋とも称されており、豪快な山岳風景と広大なダム湖に優雅に溶け込んでいます。

広大な三里浜砂丘

The dunes of Sanribama are ideal for Japanese leeks, which cover the landscape in reddish-purple blooms from late October to mid-November, lending it a deep color and creating a vibrant horticultural landscape.

三里浜の砂丘地では、らっきょうの生産が盛んで、10月下旬から11月中旬になると、鮮やかな赤紫色のらっきょうの花が一面に咲き誇り、この地の風物詩となっており、秋の砂丘地に彩を添えます。

コスモス広苑

The Cosmos Park of Fukui City’s Miya no Shita district covers an area of approximately 17.5 hectares (the size of 10 Tokyo Domes) and boasts 100 million blossoms of the park’s featured flower. Walking among the cosmos swaying in the breeze is a soothing, relaxing experience.

宮ノ下地区のコスモス広苑は、約17.5ha（東京ドーム10個分）の広さがあり、約１億本のコスモスが咲きほこっています。そよ風に踊るコスモスの中をゆっくり歩くと、心も穏やかになり、とてもリラックスできます。

路面電車が走る　福井の街角

The streetcars that run along, the finest examples of Fukui’s modern architecture are among the city’s most enduring charms. Though destroyed in wartime aerial bombardments and postwar earthquake, its value as a symbol of the city led to the reconstruction of the old courthouse in 1953. Its unique color and design work in conjunction with its atmosphere of law and justice to create a powerful presence in the city center.

福井市内には、西洋の建築様式を用いた近代建築物が今も残っており、その前を路面電車が走る風景は福井なじみのものとなっています。福井地方裁判所は空襲や震災で焼失しましたが、福井復興のシンボルとして昭和28年に再建され、その独特の色と造りには格式高い雰囲気があります。

朝日山不動寺の露天掘り跡

Shakudani-rocks are representative of the prefecture’s geological resources, and their name derives from the location of their first discovery. Mined on Mt. Asuwa since the Kofun Period, they have seen used in stone Buddhist statues, lanterns, roof tiles, and more, a timeless treasure that has fueled traditional architecture here for centuries. When wet they take on a unique blue color, further enhancing their beauty.

笏谷石(しゃくだにいし)は福井を代表する石材で、名前は採掘地の地名から由来しています。古墳時代から足羽山で採掘され、石仏、神社の敷石、石灯篭、石畳、瓦と、時代を問わず身近な石材として重宝されてきました。水に濡れると、独特の深い青緑色に変化し、より笏谷石らしい暖かみを感じることができます。

Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins
一乗谷朝倉氏遺跡

Ichijōdani, the castle town beneath the fortress of the 5th lord of the Asakura Clan, flourished during the Warring States period. The city was reduced to ashes after Asakura Yoshikage, the fifth clan head, was defeated by Oda Nobunaga’s forces. Each season boasted different forms of natural beauty, and even now visitors can enjoy its seasonal splendor.

一乗谷は、戦国時代朝倉氏五代の城下町として栄えました。最後の当主朝倉義景は、織田信長との戦いに敗れ、一乗谷は神社仏閣、居館から町屋に到るまで火が放たれ、すべてが灰に帰しました。季節と共に移ろいゆく景色からは、城下１万人とうたわれた栄華の時を思い起こすことができます。
